Electron holes in a <i>κ</i> distribution background with singularities

چکیده

The pseudo-potential method is applied to derive diverse propagating electron hole structures, in a nonthermal or $\kappa$ particle distribution function background. associated Ansatz reproduces the Schamel of \cite{Schamel2015} Maxwellian ($\kappa \rightarrow \infty$) limit, providing significant generalization it for plasmas where superthermal electrons are ubiquitous, such as space plasmas. and nonlinear dispersion relation evaluated. role spectral index on investigated, what concerns wave amplitude instance. energy-like first integral from Poisson's equation analyze properties classes solutions: with absence trapped electrons, non-analytic surplus electrons. Special attention therefore paid non-orthodox case exhibits strong singularities, being discontinuous non-analytic.

Distribution of singularities in the cosmic microwave background polarization

1550-7998=20 The polarization of the cosmic microwave background radiation will have a distribution of singularities and antisingularities, points where the polarization vanishes for topological reasons. The statistics of polarization singularities provides a nontrivial scheme to analyze the polarization maps that is distinct from the usual two-point correlation functions. Here we characterize ...

Black Holes Without Singularities

We study the properties of a completely integrable deformation of the CGHS dilaton gravity model in two dimensions. The solution is shown to represent a singularity free black hole that at large distances asymptoticaly joins to the CGHS solution. One of the fundamental unsolved problems in theoretical physics is the unification of quantum theory and gravity. One of the reason why this is so dif...

Black holes and singularities in string theory

This is a summary of a lecture I gave at the workshop on dynamics and thermodynamics of black holes and naked singularities at Politecnico Milano. It is directed to a non-expert audience and reviews several ways in which string theory accounts for black hole microstates. In particular, I give an elementary introduction to the correspondence principle by Horowitz/Polchinski, to the state countin...

Dynamics of electron-plasma vortex in background vorticity distribution.

Dynamics of a point vortex in interaction with a broad profile of background vorticity is studied experimentally by using an electron plasma. The observed motion of the vortex compares favorably with a recently proposed theoretical model [D. A. Schecter and D. H. E. Dubin, Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 2191 (1999)]. Perturbations in the background distribution in the wake of the spiral orbit of the vort...

Gravitational Collapse, Black Holes and Naked Singularities

This article gives an elementary review of gravitational collapse and the cosmic censorship hypothesis. Known models of collapse resulting in the formation of black holes and naked singularities are summarized. These models, when taken together, suggest that the censorship hypothesis may not hold in classical general relativity. The nature of the quantum processes that take place near a naked s...
